If Approximate

Two-channel video with two-channel sound, exhibited at ACCENTRICSPACE, Shanghai, China, Aug, 2025

If Approximate explores spatial and temporal closeness in Belle Isle Marsh in Boston, the city’s last remaining salt marsh. It sits next to Logan International Airport and the Boston Subway Blue Line, bordering the towns of Revere and Winthrop, land and sea. It inhabits wildlife and plants and preserves recreational facilities for human beings. Through Super 8 footage, abstract soundscapes and field recordings, the work captures the Marsh as a site of thresholds, preserving the state of transitions, while also serving as a personal memoir of loss and reflection. The spatial montage and a dual sound channel present the meaning of an in-between state: “What is lost will eventually return but different.”
