“Why look for her?” I asked Boran, confused. He had made the decision to go to Europe to pursue an unrequited romance. He struggled to answer, but both of us would soon realize this journey to a foreign land would turn into a voyage to the past.

Statement

This film, based on a real journey of my friend’s search for his unrequited love in Europe, is intentionally narrated in a non-linear fashion, lacking context as to imitate this chaotic and undefined relationship. With fictionalized elements and diversions, I hope to show how a young Chinese generation remains trapped by their repressed past in a foreign land. This repression, derived from Chinese culture and educational system, continues to torture people around me, especially in interpersonal relationships, and frequently leaves them lost in translation. I hope this film can speak for those people, including myself, to explain not only what we feel, but why we feel this way.
